These game changing devices are the key to unlocking the full benefits of electricity tariffs like Economy 7, by allowing consumers to optimize their energy usage according to specific time periods, the sliver of time when most everyone sleeps, and towering electricity prices take a short downward dip.
PJW introduces the SwitchWizard (TS100), the switch and timer unit that allows you to best utilise cheaper overnight rates of electricity. This means that you can charge battery or electrical equipment and other installations in the depth of night. The transformation this will have, both in convenience, and most especially on your pocketbook is truly worth exploring. This is especially true if you have high energy costs already, for example, you heat a hot tub or swimming pool, or you have a business or livelihood which uses a lot of equipment which needs charging up. Having said this, if you charge anything at all, the SwitchWizard will save you money.
SwitchWizard: How it works
SwitchWizard introduces a dynamic dimension to the conventional approach of energy usage. Instead of a fixed flat rate, this prewired, ready to use unit is designed to help you divide the day into distinct segments, according to its unique electricity pricing. These segments would encompass peak hours and off-peak hours.
At the core of SwitchWizard lies a fusion of clock and communication technology; it is equipped with a real-time clock which enables it to utilise energy during off peak time frames, when electricity is generally much cheaper. You set it up to start charging at the time of night chosen by you, and enjoy the immediate benefits, all at your fingertips !

How can the SwitchWizard help a Business save money?
Well, take the story of a recent customer. This was a customer running a busy farming business. He was utilising 4 forklift trucks, and these were battery operated. He was charging them up at the end of each working day, ready for the next morning.
Having set up an Economy 7 Tariff with his supplier, his intention was to use the cheaper electricity available on his tariff, which was 12 to 7am. He was however not so pleased with running to the equipment shed in his nightshirt and socks every night at the stroke of midnight. This is when he called us.
We set him up with the SwitchWizard, and seeing the savings and wisdom of this plan he bought four of them.
He had been paying around £53 per night per forklift truck (so roughly £212 in total) and this was every working day of every month! With the SwitchWizard, he was able to take advantage of lower nightly costs. His new electricity costs for charging were now £18 per night per truck, saving around £35 per night, and with immediate effect! You can do the maths if you want to know the annual savings on something like this.
The core objective of SwitchWizard is to enable our consumers to make well-informed decisions regarding energy usage and costs. By allocating energy-intensive tasks to off-peak hours, individuals can significantly curtail their monthly utility bills.
Commercially, the option to automatically set timers to use electricity at cheaper rates will benefit many commercial industries. Our business customers have bought these for charging Farm and Construction machinery, Industrial equipment, Hotels, Holiday Parks, and Marina industries, Golf and other Sports Facilities, Hospitals, Schools and many others.
Saving money in your home
The domestic (as well as care-home industry) customer will benefit equally, and immediately. SwitchWizard proves highly valuable and beneficial for planning tasks that demand substantial energy, such as running dishwashers, washing machines, driers, hot tubs and charging electric vehicles, during off-peak intervals.
Households equipped with electric heating or cooling systems can leverage the SwitchWizard to program these systems for heightened activity during off-peak hours. This practice can translate into substantial long-term financial savings.
Electric water heaters can be timed to function during off-peak hours, enabling users to access heated water throughout the day without incurring peak-hour charges for heating.
SwitchWizard can be employed to schedule the charging of devices and batteries during off-peak windows, effectively reducing the costs associated with powering various gadgets.
In conclusion, SwitchWizard introduces a dynamic dimension to electricity consumption, aligning energy usage with varying rates throughout the day. By orchestrating energy-intensive activities during off-peak hours, individuals and businesses can harness lower electricity rates to their advantage, fostering an economically sound and ecologically conscious energy consumption model. Familiarity with the advantages of SwitchWizard, coupled with strategic usage approaches, can yield considerable financial savings and pave the way for a more energy-efficient lifestyle.

Pre-wired 4 Way Hook Up for Caravan Parks
Pre-wired 4 way Hookup for Caravan Parks

A multi-way hookup such as a 2, 3 or 4 way hook up for caravan parks is an electrical distribution setup that provides power to multiple caravans or RVs at a holiday park or campground. This setup involves metering and distributing electricity to four individual units from a central point.
Here’s a general overview of how this setup typically works:
At the heart of the setup is a central power distribution point. This might be a distribution board or electrical panel that receives power from the main grid or an on-site generator.
Each of the four caravan or RV units has its own individual electricity meter. These meters log the amount of electricity consumed by each unit, which is important for billing, or for tracking pay as you go systems. The meters need to be accurate and tamper-proof in all cases.

From the central distribution point, individual electrical subpanels or distribution panels are connected to each caravan or RV unit. These subpanels help regulate the power supply to each unit and protect them from overloads or electrical faults. The subpanels may include circuit breakers and other protective devices.
In a multi way or 4 Way Hook Up for Caravan Parks, the central distribution point would have features to allow management and control of the power distribution. Depending on the meters used, this might include the ability to monitor individual power usage, remotely disconnect power in case of non-payment, or adjust power settings as needed.
The option of installing a 4 way hookup system saves space for the park owner, eliminates unnecessary obstacles for the holiday park guests, and makes it easier to maintain as required.

Installing Customised Meters and Enclosures at Medway Marina
Installing Customised Meters and Enclosures at Medway Marina

Metering Medway

On Thursday, we went to Medway Marina, and set out to replace very outdated meters which were no longer compliant to current regulations. We installed a new Smart Pre-payment system, using EML-TU meters. These were then installed into existing bollards which had housed the older meters.
Andy Noble, our celebrated workshop manager, realised that the existing posts where the meters would need to go did not have enough space to fit the new metal brackets that the meters would be housed in.

Overcoming the issues with Space
Andy drafted up a plan to find a way to fit the meters into the area where it needed to go. Because there were obstacles in the available areas, Andy designed the new brackets with cut outs to accommodate for this. He also customised the metal bracket so it was deeper than the original one, ensuring a better fit.

Reducing Energy Costs in Schools with Voltage Optimisation
Empowering UK Schools: Reducing Energy Costs in Schools with Voltage Optimisation

In the current landscape of our educational institutions, where knowledge should bloom and young minds flourish, a growing concern looms overhead: the soaring energy bills that burden schools across the UK. As schools and colleges strive to provide a conducive learning environment, the financial strain caused by hefty energy costs has become a pressing concern.
In this context, we would like to introduce the transformative solution of Voltage Optimisation Technology, as a pragmatic approach to not only mitigate the issue but also pave the way for sustainable, financially helpful and responsible operations.
The Shocking Reality: The Burden of Energy Costs
Educational institutions play a pivotal role in shaping the future, but the present reality is sobering. Energy bills have quadrupled over the past two years, and with government support dramatically curtailed last April, many schools are facing potential bankruptcy.
It costs a lot to run a school, and keep it heated, well lit, with all manner of equipment running smoothly. They are typically large buildings and sprawling campuses, with spacious rooms and halls. They open early in the morning, and often run until late into the evening. Regular and evening classes, extracurricular activities, and administrative work all lead to higher energy usage.
Many schools have outdated, and inefficient heating systems, and these can consume a significant portion or energy used.
In addition, schools require good lighting for classrooms, hallways, gymnasiums, and outdoor areas, all the more in wintertime. If incandescent or fluorescent bulbs are used, these costs are even more.

Schools use a variety of equipment and appliances; computers and tablets, and various sports, arts, science equipment depending on the school. Many schools have school meals facilities or a cafeteria, with stoves, fridges, dishwashers, kettles and so on. If these are outdated and not energy efficient, the cost are even higher.
Many schools have older buildings with outdated infrastructure. This can include inefficient insulation, drafty windows, and old wiring, all of which can result in energy loss and increased energy consumption. Poor maintenance practices can lead to energy waste. For example, leaking windows, doors, or HVAC systems can result in conditioned air escaping, forcing the systems to work harder to maintain a consistent temperature.
To mitigate high energy bills, many schools do implement energy conservation strategies. These may include upgrading to energy-efficient technologies, improving building insulation, and educating occupants about energy-saving practices. Additionally, seeking out available grants, incentives, and funding for energy-efficient upgrades are helping schools make necessary improvements while managing costs.
Exploring the Avenues: From Renewables to Efficient Practices
While the challenge are significant, so are the opportunities for transformation. Schools are increasingly looking toward renewable energy sources, harnessing the power of the sun and wind to offset their energy bills. Adopting energy-efficient habits, such as turning off lights and equipment when not in use, has also gained traction. These strategies are crucial steps toward a greener and more financially responsible future.
In addition, there’s another solution, increasingly adopted that holds the potential to redefine the energy landscape in schools: Voltage Optimisation Technology.
The Power and Potential of Voltage Optimisation
Voltage optimisation technology, emerges as a formidable ally. At its core, voltage optimisation regulates the voltage supplied to electrical equipment, aligning it with the optimal operating range. This not only enhances the efficiency and lifespan of appliances but also curbs unnecessary energy wastage. For schools, this translates into a substantial reduction in energy consumption, a fact that resonates deeply with their financial bottom line.
Why Voltage Optimisers Reign Supreme
Unlike other solutions, voltage optimisers offer a unique blend of simplicity and effectiveness. Their non-invasive installation process ensures minimal disruption to the school’s routine. Furthermore, the returns on investment are rapid and tangible. Schools that embrace voltage optimisation technology witness a notable drop in energy bills, 15% on average – a welcome respite that allows institutions to redirect resources toward what truly matters: providing quality education.
Conclusion: Illuminating the Path Forward
As schools in the UK navigate the complexities of a modern education system, energy costs need not stand as an insurmountable obstacle. Renewable energy and efficient practices are stepping stones toward sustainability, but voltage optimisation technology stands as the beacon guiding schools toward financial relief and environmental stewardship. Customising Prepayment Meter Fixing Brackets
Customising Prepayment Meter Fixing Brackets

Fixing Brackets for Prepayment Meters
The bracket on the right was custom designed by us, from the original (seen on the left). Its purpose was to house EML-TU prepayment meters. Our original survey showed us that the meters would have to fit into a smaller area, or alternately to be installed onto a bollard. The sort of bollards needed for this would cost around £1500 each, and since many of these would be needed, the costs could quickly become prohibitive.
Our Workshop manager Andy set to work drawing up a plan to find a way to fit the meter into the area where it needed to go. Andy designed the new brackets with cut outs to accommodate obstacles which were in that space. He customised the metal bracket so it was deeper than the original one, ensuring that the meter would be protected.
This has resulted in huge savings for the client, as they were replacing many meters. This new redesign would allow them to fit the newer, better meters which could now be installed in the area as originally planned. They were also very pleased to save money, not having to buy these bollards, so a great result all around.

Steel Fixing bracket for a 2 Way Marine Hookup System.
For this 2 Way Hookup metering system for the same marina, Andy replaced the backing with a 3mm alloy fixing bracket, much more durable and long lasting. The brackets which had originally been in place had been there for many years, had all sorts of wiring jammed up behind it, and was no longer in good condition. With this new bracket, the wiring could be housed in a better way, making everything look much more tidy and efficient.
At PJW we love a challenge, and we love to solve problems. “Where there is an obstacle, we’ll find a solution.”

This promotes fairness and accountability among users and eliminates disputes related to energy costs.
Conservation and Environmental Awareness:
Energy metering encourages energy conservation among boat owners. When individuals can see their energy usage in real-time, they become more conscious of their consumption habits and are likely to adopt energy-saving practices. By promoting awareness and providing feedback on energy consumption, marinas can contribute to environmental sustainability efforts and reduce their carbon footprint.
Load Management and Capacity Planning:
With energy metering, marina operators can understand the total energy demand and load profile of the facility. This data helps in capacity planning by identifying peak energy demand periods, allowing the marina to optimize its energy infrastructure and distribution systems. By managing energy loads effectively, marinas can prevent overloads, reduce the risk of power outages, and ensure a reliable power supply for all users.
Performance Monitoring and Maintenance:
Energy metering provides insights into the performance of electrical systems and equipment in marinas. Abnormal energy consumption patterns may indicate faulty or inefficient equipment, enabling early detection of maintenance issues. Timely identification and repair of electrical faults can minimize downtime, improve safety, and enhance the overall operational efficiency of the marina.
Incentivizing Energy Efficiency:
Energy metering can be coupled with incentive programs to motivate boat owners to adopt energy-efficient practices. For example, marinas can introduce rewards or discounts for users who consistently demonstrate low energy consumption or actively engage in energy-saving initiatives. This encourages a culture of energy efficiency and helps marinas achieve their sustainability goals.
Data-Driven Decision Making:
Energy metering generates valuable data on energy consumption, trends, and patterns. By analyzing this data, marina operators can make informed decisions related to energy management, infrastructure upgrades, and long-term planning. Data-driven insights enable marinas to optimize their operations, minimize energy waste, and reduce operational costs.
Overall, energy metering in marinas provides transparency, promotes energy conservation, enhances operational efficiency, and contributes to environmental sustainability. It benefits both marina operators and boat owners by ensuring fair billing, optimizing energy usage, and improving overall infrastructure performance.

What is Destratification
What is Destratification

Destratification, in the context of commercial and industrial scenarios, refers to the process of reducing temperature stratification within a space by mixing and circulating the air effectively. Here are the benefits of destratification:
1. **Energy Efficiency**: Destratification improves energy efficiency by reducing the temperature differential between the floor and ceiling of a space. In buildings with high ceilings, warm air tends to rise and accumulate near the ceiling, while the lower areas remain cooler. By using destratification methods such as ceiling fans or specialized destratification fans, the warm air is pushed down to the occupied zone, resulting in more even temperature distribution. This reduces the load on heating systems, enabling energy savings and cost reduction.
2. **Improved Comfort**: Destratification helps create a more comfortable environment for occupants. By eliminating hot and cold spots within a space, it ensures a consistent and uniform temperature throughout, promoting occupant comfort. This is particularly important in commercial and industrial settings where maintaining optimal working conditions is essential for productivity and employee well-being.
3. **HVAC System Optimization**: Destratification can enhance the performance of HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning) systems. By redistributing warm air from the ceiling to the occupied zone, the heating system can operate more efficiently, as it does not have to work as hard to maintain a comfortable temperature. This can result in extended equipment lifespan, reduced maintenance costs, and improved overall HVAC system performance.
4. **Condensation Prevention**: In industrial settings with processes that generate humidity or involve temperature variations, destratification helps prevent condensation. By minimizing temperature differences, destratification reduces the likelihood of moisture buildup on surfaces, which can lead to corrosion, mold growth, and equipment damage. This is particularly crucial in areas such as warehouses, manufacturing facilities, or food processing plants where condensation can have detrimental effects.
5. **Energy Savings**: By promoting efficient air circulation and temperature equalization, destratification reduces the need for additional heating or cooling energy. This directly translates into energy savings and lower utility bills. In large commercial or industrial spaces where heating or cooling demands are substantial, implementing destratification strategies can lead to significant cost reductions over time.
In summary, destratification in commercial and industrial scenarios offers multiple benefits, including energy efficiency, improved comfort, HVAC system optimization, prevention of condensation-related issues, and energy savings. By addressing temperature stratification and promoting optimal air circulation, destratification contributes to a more sustainable, comfortable, and cost-effective operational environment.

Metering your Water Usage
Metering your Water Usage

There has never been a better time to meter your water usage. With temperatures in the UK soaring, it is increasingly possible that we will have another hot dry summer like last year.
Whether you are a homeowner, landlord, hotelier, or if you run a holiday business, you may be able to save £100s by metering your water or that of your tenants and holiday guests.
A water meter will provide accurate measurement and monitoring the water used. It will also help you save money. Here’s how you may benefit:
Awareness of Consumption
- A water meter allows you to track how much water you or your tenants/guests are using on a regular basis. Monitoring consumption shows your water usage patterns and helps to identify areas where water is being wasted. This indicates where improvements and savings may be made.
Leak Detection:
- Water meters can detect even small leaks in your plumbing system. A leak, no matter how small, can result in significant water loss over time, leading to increased water bills. By regularly checking your water meter readings, you can identify unusual or constant water usage patterns, indicating the presence of leaks. Detecting and fixing leaks promptly can help you avoid unnecessary expenses.
Conservation Incentive:
- When you have a water meter installed, you are billed for the exact amount of water you use. This creates a direct financial incentive to conserve water. By reducing your consumption, you can lower your water bills. It encourages you to adopt water-saving practices such as fixing dripping faucets, using water-efficient appliances, taking shorter showers, and watering your plants efficiently.
Budgeting and Planning:
- With a water meter, you have a clearer understanding of your water usage patterns and associated costs. This knowledge enables you to budget more effectively and plan for your water expenses. You can set targets for reducing consumption, evaluate the effectiveness of your conservation efforts, and adjust your habits accordingly to meet your financial goals.
Conservation Programs and Incentives:
- In some regions, water utility companies offer conservation programs and incentives to encourage customers to reduce water usage. These programs often require the installation of a water meter. By participating in these initiatives, you may receive rebates, discounts, or lower rates for practicing water conservation, leading to additional cost savings.
Remember also that while a water meter provides valuable information and motivation to save money, it’s essential to implement water-saving practices and be mindful of your consumption habits to achieve significant cost reductions.

When selecting a water meter, it’s important to consider factors such as the expected flow rates in your property, the required accuracy, compatibility with local regulations, and your budget.

The Advantages of Multiple Circuit Metering at PJW
The Advantages of Multiple Circuit Metering

Summation CTs
In the context of Multiple Circuit Metering, the term ‘summation’ refers to the process of adding together or totaling the measurements of multiple circuits.
This is used in situations where meters are installed to measure the production or usage of electricity.
The summation process involves collecting the readings or data from each individual circuit and combining these to obtain a total measurement. This measurement then provides a comprehensive view of the total usage or production of the resource being metered.
At PJW Meters we can set up Summation Metering system for you, through the use of various methods, including the use of a summation current transformer. This is a type of CT designed to combine the currents from multiple sources into a single output. It is commonly used in applications where it is necessary to measure the total current flowing through multiple phases.
How a summation CT works:

Without getting too technical, the process works like this:
- Multiple Current Inputs: A summation CT has multiple primary windings, typically one for each current-carrying conductor or phase that needs to be measured. These primary windings are connected in series with their respective conductors.
- Current Transformation: As current flows through each primary winding, it generates a magnetic field within the core of the CT. This magnetic field induces a proportional current in the secondary winding of each primary winding.
- Secondary Windings: The secondary windings of each primary winding produce separate output currents that are proportional to the currents flowing through the corresponding conductors. These individual secondary currents represent the measurements of each individual conductor or phase.
- Summing the Outputs: The outputs of the secondary windings are combined or summed together to obtain a cumulative measurement of the total current. This can be achieved through different methods, depending on the specific CT design and application.
- Electronic Summation: In electronic summation, the secondary windings are connected to electronic circuitry that adds or sums up the individual output currents. The circuitry may include operational amplifiers or other summing devices.
- Physical Summation: In physical summation, the outputs of the secondary windings are physically connected together using additional conductors or busbars. The connection point becomes the combined output of the summation CT.
- Total Current Measurement: The summed output represents the total current flowing through all the conductors or phases being measured. This cumulative measurement provides an accurate representation of the overall current, taking into account the contribution from each individual conductor.
It’s important to note that the design and use of summation CTs can vary based on a variety of requirements and the number of conductors or phases being measured. The CT may also include burden resistors, burden connections, or additional circuitry depending on the specific application needs.
Summation CTs are commonly used in electrical distribution systems, energy monitoring, and other applications where it is necessary to measure the combined current from multiple sources accurately.

Multiple summation metering offers several advantages:
- Comprehensive Measurement: Multiple summation metering allows for the measurement of the total consumption or production across multiple points or locations. It provides a complete view of the overall usage or production, giving a more accurate representation of the total quantity.
- Accurate Billing and Allocation: By combining the measurements from individual meters, multiple summation metering enables accurate billing and allocation of resources. It ensures that each point or location contributes to the total consumption or production correctly, which is important for fair and precise billing or cost allocation.
- Energy Management and Conservation: Having a cumulative measurement of resource usage helps in effective energy management and conservation efforts. It enables identification of areas with high consumption, facilitates comparison across locations, and assists in implementing energy-saving measures where needed.
- Centralized Monitoring and Reporting: Multiple summation metering allows for centralized monitoring and reporting of resource usage. The data collected from individual meters can be sent to a central system, making it easier to analyze trends, generate reports, and make informed decisions for better resource management.
- System Analysis and Optimization: By having an aggregated view of resource usage, multiple summation metering facilitates system analysis and optimization. It helps identify areas of inefficiency, potential leaks, or areas where production can be optimized, leading to cost savings and improved operations.
- Simplified Data Collection: With multiple summation metering, the need to collect data from individual meters separately is eliminated. The combined measurement simplifies the data collection process, reducing the time and effort required for data gathering.
Overall setting up a multiple summation metering system enhances the measurement accuracy of your premises, enables effective resource management, supports conservation efforts, and provides valuable insights for better decision-making and optimization of resource usage.
Lanadal Marina in Lipno, with Innovation by iNELS
Lanadal Marina in Lipno, with Innovation by iNELS

ELKO EP’s recent implementation of our Smart Technology is an exciting development.
This time project we were not working in the Middle East, America, or Africa, but in the Czech Republic, much closer to home.
Lipno is a picturesque tourist spot near a great dam on the Vltava River. The largest dam reservoir in the Czech Republic, and because of this, it is sometimes referred to as the Czech Sea.
It is a great destination for Czechs living in the Republic, as well as tourists from Austria, Germany, Holland, and further afield. This is due to Landa Marina Resort’s high-quality, stylish accommodation, and well earned reputation.
ELKO EP was pleased to upgrade the standards of this resort by installing the very latest of iNEL’s Smart Wireless Technology, thus enabling for easy to use management systems to this facility.
This implementation took place in the period from 11/2022 – 03/2023.

Elements used:
- Switching element with external temperature sensor RFSTI-11B, 285 pcs
- System temperature controller RFTC-10/G, 285 pcs
- Smart RF box eLAN-RF-103, 40 pcs
At the start of this project, the manager of the Landal resort, Marina Lipno, requested the implementation of a system that would allow for the regulation of temperature and heating in the resort’s apartments, and without the need for technical maintenance call outs.
Another requirement was the possibility of connecting the temperature control system to the resort’s reservation system. The reservation system would send temperature control information based on the occupancy of individual apartments. Based on this information, the temperature in the apartment could increase or decrease, for example, the room would warm up just before the guest arrives, and the heating would shut off after the guest leaves. The goal was to reduce energy costs, which are one of the resort’s most important cost items.
When deciding which system to use, the iNELS RF solution won. The main reason for the win was the capability of the system to function in the existing computer network without the need for changes and major investments in the existing computer network. iNELS RF also offered a simple interface for integration with the resort’s existing reservation system.
This project was implemented directly by iNELS CZ in two stages. The first stage took place in cooperation with JH Technik s.r.o., which ensured the installation of receivers in gas boilers. This stage took place as part of the autumn reconstruction of the area. The second stage took place at the beginning of 2023. This stage was carried out by iNELS CZ in cooperation with the investor’s technicians. All installation took place while the resort was in full operation, without inconvenience to hotel guests, and with fresh advantages of efficiency and economy to owners and staff.
